Q » What is Drift net in the fishing industry?
31 Oct, 2025
A » Drift nets are large fishing nets, usually made of nylon, that drift with the ocean currents, suspended from floats but not anchored to the seabed. They are used to catch schools of pelagic fish like tuna and salmon. While effective, drift nets pose environmental concerns as they can unintentionally catch non-target species, leading to bycatch of marine mammals and other sea life, and contribute to marine debris.
